During her testimony before the District Court in Banja Luka, Fikreta Zulkic said that she went, together with her sister Ismeta and brother Muhamed, to a birthday party at her neighbour Silvana Radujkovic’s house on May 30, 1995.

“When we were on our way back home, we heard a rustling sound in a bush. My brother Muhamed told us not to be afraid, adding that it was probably Todorovic. However, we got scared and took another way back home, while our brother took the shortcut alone,” Fikreta Zulkic said.

A short time later Fikreta Zulkic heard a strong explosion.

“We were so afraid that we ran back home. We did not dare come out. We assumed that a grenade had been thrown at our brother. When he came later on, he said that Todorovic had thrown a grenade at him,” Fikreta Zulkic said, adding that a shrapnel piece hit her on her leg and a neighbour of hers drove her to hospital.

The District Prosecution in Banja Luka charges Todorovic with waiting for Muhamed Zulkic, who was walking back home down a path on May 30, 1995, with the intention to kill him. Todorovic then allegedly threw a grenade at Zulkic, causing life-threatening injuries.

Ismeta Zulkic, Muhamed’s other sister, confirmed that she was with her sister and brother in May 1995, adding that she saw both of them being wounded. She said that she had known Todorovic from before the war, because he had supplied them with firewood a few times. She said that they had never entered into conflict with him.

Slobodan Radujkovic, who testified as the third witness at this hearing, said that he invited the Zulkic family to a birthday party at his sister’s, but he was not present when the attack occured.

“I went back home at about eight. They stayed at my sister’s. Later on, I heard that somebody had thrown a grenade at Muhamed and it was most probably Todorovic,” Radujkovic said.

The next hearing is due to be held on June 27.
