The Trial Chamber has decided that the next hearing will take place on October 15, 2009, announcing a crime-scene inspection.
“Witness Nikolic informed us yesterday that he would not be able to appear in court because of his health state, adding that he would come to another hearing if he feels better. (…) We think that we will be able to hold the next hearing on October 15, 2009. However, if any changes occur in the meantime we will inform the parties accordingly,” Trial Chamber Chairman Darko Samardzic said.
Samardzic said that, on Friday, September 25, 2009, the parties would visit the Agricultural Cooperative in Kravica.
Zeljko Ivanovic, a former member of the Second Special Police Squad from Sekovici with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska, is charged with participation in the murder of about 1,000 Bosniak men committed in Kravica Agricultural Cooperative in July 1995.
The Prosecution charges him with taking part in a joint criminal enterprise, from July 10 to July 19, 1995, with the aim of forcibly resettling about 40,000 civilians from Srebrenica and executing more than 7,000 Bosniaks.
The indictment alleges that Ivanovic participated, on July 13, 1995, in the capture of several thousand Bosniak men, as well as their escort to the Kravica Agricultural Cooperative in Sandici village, “knowing they would be killed”.
After having detained the Bosniaks in the warehouse, members of the Second Squad killed the detained Bosniaks using automatic weapons and throwing bombs, while Ivanovic was among other policemen, who “prevented detainees from escaping through windows at the back of the warehouse”.
On June 29, 2009 Ivanovic pleaded not guilty to the charges that he participated in the genocide in Srebrenica. His trial began on August 27, 2009.
