Acting on a motion filed by the State Prosecution, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has decided to refer the case against Safet Bukvic to the Cantonal Court in Mostar for further processing.
The Prosecution filed its motion on the basis of “the gravity of the crime and the status of the perpetrator”, as well as efficiency in processing war crimes.
The indictment filed by the State Prosecution charges Bukvic with having killed a Croat civilian in Celebici village, in Konjic Municipality, on April 25, 1993.
The indictment alleges that members of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina captured Croat civilians and members of the Croatian Defence Council, who had previously handed in their weapons. The Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina contends that, after having beaten those men, they took the injured party to the basement, where the indictee killed him by shooting him in the chest.
On June 10 this year Bukvic appeared before the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and pleaded not guilty. He is defending himself while at liberty.
