Witness: Paunovic was shooting on us

Two witness which survived mass shooting in Rogatica, today have testified against the man who the Prosecutor of BIH accused of that crime.

In August 1992, 27 civilians prisoners from camp “Rasadnik” near Rogatica was shot in village Duljevac. Out of three of them who survived, two testified for Prosecutor in case against Dragoja Paunović also known as Špiro in War crimes section of the Court of BiH.

“ I know that Dragoje Paunović was shooting repeatedly”, said witness Armin Baždar before Council which presided by Davorin Jukić.

Indictment charges Paunović that in period from May to September 1992, he ordered and expelled civilian Bosniak nationals on political, national, ethnical, cultural and religious base in Rogatica municipality and region Eastern Bosnia.

Indictment against him is first from the end of war, which treats crimes committed in Rogatica municipality, where ethnic cleansing was committed from 1992 to 1995.

Paunović is charged that on 15 August 1992, as commander of smaller military formation of Rogatica battalion, ordered that 27 civilians prisoners in camp “Rasadnik” be taken in front lines as human shield.

Protected witness A said before Council that all prisoners after human shield were taken to be shot in Duljevac, near Rogatica.

Witness added that soldiers which participated in shooting were wearing masked uniforms with yellow lines on shoulder, except one who had yellow lines tied around his head, who the witness identified as Paunović.

Armin Baždar in the wartime had 15 years of age. He remembered that hands of prisoners who were taken to shooting were tied on their backs and that he, as well as two other survivors, pretended that they were dead for some time and later freed one another and succeeded to escape. 

Both witness before testimony identified accused on photographs and later identified him in courtroom. 
Prosecution is proving that Dragoje Paunović ordered shooting of 27 civilians, and personally participated in execution shooting from rifle.

He is accused of the crimes against humanity. The trial started on 31 October 2005. Defense will start with evidence on 22 March.
