Enver Buza, the former commander of a Bosnian Army battalion, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for failing to discipline his subordinates for killing 27 Croat civilians in the village of Uzdol in 1993. The Bosnian state court in Sarajevo on Monday found Enver Buza, the former commander of the Bosnian Army’s Independent Prozor Battalion, guilty of contravening provisions of international humanitarian law on the protection of civilians during wartime, and sentenced him to 12 years in prison.

Enver Buza, the former commander of a Bosnian Army battalion, said he should be acquitted of charges of failing to punish his subordinates for killing 27 Croat civilians in an attack on the village of Uzdol in 1993. Enver Buza’s defence urged the Bosnian state court in Sarajevo on Tuesday to acquit him, arguing that his responsibility for the killings of Bosnian Croats in the village of Uzdol in the Prozor municipality in 1993 had not been proved during the trial.

Enver Buza, the former commander of a Bosnian Army battalion in Prozor, is on trial for failing to punish his subordinates for killing 27 Croat civilians in an attack on the village of Uzdol in 1993. In closing arguments at the Bosnian state court in Sarajevo on Tuesday, the prosecution argued that former Bosnian Army battalion commander Enver Buza should be found guilty and given the harshest possible penalty.

Former Croatian Defence Council fighter Goran Pavkovic was charged with torturing and abusing Bosniak detainees in the Prozor area in 1993. The Bosnian state prosecution filed an indictment against Goran Pavkovic on Tuesday, alleging that he committed war crimes in the Prozor area in 1993.
