The initial verdict sentenced Veselko Raguz, a former member of the Croatian Defense Council, to three years in prison for participating in the interrogation and torture of detainees held in the Dretelj detention camp during the summer of 1993. Ivo Raguz, also a former member of the Croatian Defense Council, was sentenced to three years in prison for participating in the same crimes.
A first instance verdict acquitted both defendants of war crimes charges in the Stolac and Capljina area.
After the verdict had been partially repealed, a retrial at the state court’s appeal chamber was held to address charges referring to war crimes in Dretelj.
