According to the charges, Ristanic, the former president of the wartime presidency of the municipality of Brcko, participated in a joint criminal enterprise aimed at persecuting Bosniak and Croat civilians from the Brcko area from April to December 1992.
Ristanic has been charged with committing crimes against several hundred civilians who were unlawfully detained in a police building, health center, the Luka detention camp, the “Laser” and “Partizan” factories, as well as a Yugoslav National Army garrison. Detainees were abused and killed at these locations throughout 1992.
According to the indictment, Ristanic is responsible for the disappearance of several hundred civilians, who were either killed or taken to unknown locations.
Ristanic has also been charged with the rape and sexual abuse of detained women and men, as well as the destruction of several mosques in Brcko.
He was arrested in May 2015. He was released and allowed to defend himself from liberty.
