Witness Not Fit to Testify at Condric Trial

A court expert said one of the proposed state prosecution witnesses couldn’t testify at the Mato Condric trial, due to his poor mental health.

Neuropsychiatrist Vjekoslav Kovacevic said he met with the witness and looked over his medical files, and determined that the witness was suffering from post-traumatic stress and depression.
 
He said the witness’s mental problems began after he was detained during the war.
 
Prosecutor Milanko Kajganic said this witness gave a statement during the investigation phase of the case.
 
“Well, he may have been OK then, but his condition has worsened since,” Kovacevic said.
 
Kovacevic said being in the courtroom would disturb the witness and confuse him.
 
“I don’t think he will get better,” Kovacevic said.
 
Condric, a former member of the Bosnian Croat Army’s military police, has been charged with war crimes in Bosanski Brod.
 
The trial continues on May 13.
