The witness, Ivan Begic, said he served with the military police of the Croatian Defense Council in early March 1992. He said their headquarters was in an old police station, and later was relocated to the Polet football stadium in Bosanski Brod.

“Mate Condric was with me, we grew up together in Brod…he was in the unit until he was wounded at the end of July or early August 1992,” Begic said.

Begic said he never took anyone to the old police station, nor did he see anyone else do so. He said he didn’t remember whether the building had a basement.

The state prosecution has charged Condric with participating in the physical and mental abuse of a woman on the premises of the old police station.

He is also charged with allowing two unidentified Croatian Defense Council soldiers rape a woman in the boiler room of the Polet football stadium in August 1992. After the rape, Condric allegedly sexually abused the victim.

“As far as I know, no one was imprisoned at the Polet football stadium…For some time, Muslims and Croats who hadn’t reported to the military service were located at the stadium. Later, they were assigned to the units,” Begic said.

In response to questions by the defense, Begic said there were several persons with the name Mato.

According to Begic, Mato Condric went to the hospital in Bosanski Brod after his injury and didn’t return to the military police.

The trial will continue on April 22.
