The custody measure has been ordered due to a possibility that the suspect would have a chance to influence witnesses and accomplices while at liberty.

Stanarevic was arrested on June 17 due to a suspicion that he participated in the murders of Bosniak civilians at Hrgar locality, Bihac municipality, in June 1992.

The Prosecution alleges that the suspect, former member of military police with the 15th Bihac Brigade of the Republika Srpska Army, VRS, participated in the murder of at least four civilians.

During a custody order hearing Prosecutor Emir Neradin requested the Court of BiH to order Stanarevic into custody, because he “might influence witnesses”, while at liberty, “with the aim of improving his own position”.

The Defence objected to this proposal, requesting the Court to release the suspect under prohibiting measures.
