The Bosnian state prosecution filed the charges on Monday against Palameta, alias ‘Dugi’, alleging that he participated in torturing, beating and stealing from Bosniaks held at Dretelj, either alone or alongside other members of the Croatian Defence Council.

“Among other things, the defendant is accused of ordering prisoners to beat each other, which resulted in death of one prisoner,” the prosecution said in a statement.

Palameta is charged as the former commander of the logistics section of the Croatian Defence Council’s military police and as one of the commanders at Dretelj, a former Yugoslav military barracks near Capljina in the south of the country where a few thousand Bosniaks were detained in harsh conditions during wartime.

The indictment has been forwarded to the Bosnian state court for confirmation.
