Former Bosnian Serb fighter Radomir Susnjar, alias ‘Lalco’, suspected of participating in burning dozens of Bosniak civilians alive in Visegrad in 1992, could soon be extradited.
The Bosnian state prosecutor’s office announced Susnjar’s arrest on Friday and said it believed that he could soon be sent back from France to his home country to face charges over the killings in Visegrad.
Susnjar is suspected of having participated in detaining the Bosniaks in a house in Pionirska Street in Visegrad and then setting it on fire.
Fifty-nine people died, among them women and children.
The prosecutor’s office said that Susnjar is suspected alongside others including former Bosnian Serb fighter Milan Lukic, who was jailed for life by the Hague Tribunal for crimes committed in Visegrad, including the killings in Pionirska Street.
“Susnjar’s arrest is a clear message to all war crimes suspects that the Bosnian prosecutor’s office and police agencies will find and prosecute suspects wherever they hide, all in the interest of the rule of law, peace and reconciliation in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
