The judge, Zoran Bozic, said that the subpoena was sent through diplomatic channels to Belgium, where the defendant and his lawyer reside, but the confirmation that the subpoena had been served had not arrived.

“We will make a decision on the further course of the process at a later date,” said Bozic.

The Prosecution charged Fahrudin Alic, as member of the Military Police of the Territorial Defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with taking part in inflicting grievous bodily and mental harm to imprisoned Serb civilians held in the Central Prison and the Viktor Bubanj army barracks in Sarajevo between July and late October 1992.

The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina confirmed the indictment against Alic in early March last year.
