The indictment charges Vujovic, former Chief of the Public Safety Station in Bileca, and Duka, former Commander of the police, with having participated in a joint criminal enterprise aimed at persecuting the non-Serb population in Bileca municipality from June to December 1992.
“In addition to the persecution of the Bosniak and Croat population in Bileca municipality, Vujovic and Duka participated in the unlawful and inhumane detention of civilians in inhumane conditions, deportations, murders, torture and physical and mental abuse,” the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina said in its announcement.
It further says that Bosniak and Croat civilians were detained in detention camps in the Public Safety Station building and Student Residence in Bileca.
The unconfirmed indictment alleges that active and reserve policemen from Bileca, as well as members of military and paramilitary formations participated in the joint criminal enterprise.
“Vujovic and Duka knew about all those crimes committed against non-Serb detainees, who were held in the Public Safety Station and Student Residence premises in Bileca, while Duka personally participated in murders and physical and mental abuse of detainees. They fully supported and encouraged the crimes, considering the fact that they never even tried to prevent them or punish the perpetrators,” the announcement says.
Vujovic and Duka were arrested at the beginning of December this year. They were then ordered into custody.
The indictment was forwarded to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina for confirmation.
