Zoran Milic, also known as Maslanica, former member of the Second Battalion of “Nikola Subic Zrinjski” Brigade, was found guilty of having participated in murder and inhumane treatment.
The Trial Chamber determined that, on April 26, 1993 Milic, who was accompanied by Zoran Marinic, came to witness B-1’s house in Busovaca at around 10 pm and told the witness’ wife and three minor children, who were in the house, that they came to kill them.
Zoran Milic put a knife on B-4’s throat and opened fire from a rifle, while Zoran Marinic set the house furniture on fire.
Besides that, Milic was found guilty of having come, together with Zoran Marinic, to Topalovic’s house, where they killed old man Ahmed Topalovic and disabled person Sabrija Topalovic using fire arms and a knife. On that occasion they wounded B-2, as well as Adil Topalovic and Muvedeta Smolo, who died due to the injuries.
Milic was on trial with Zoran Marinic, who died in October.
Trial Chamber Chairman Saban Maksumic explained that the Court trusted the witnesses, including Zoran Marinic.
“The Chamber has determined that Zoran Milic was in a dominant position towards the victims… Those were minors, an elderly person, women, a disabled person, so they were not capable of serving the military,” Maksumic explained, adding that the Court determined that indictee Milic deliberately participated in crimes against civilians.
Home detention measures against Zoran Milic were extended. The Court made a remark that, in case he violated the prohibiting measures, the Court might order him into custody.
The parties have the right to appeal this verdict.
Milic was sentenced according to the Criminal Code of the former Yugoslavia, because the Chamber considered it more favourable for perpetrators.
