A document sent by the South Sector of HVO to civil police in Stolac and Capljina on July 3, 1993 was presented as material evidence.

“The civil police is competent when it comes to safety of citizens in Stolac and Capljina. There was no engagement of the Fourth Battalion or military forces in general,” Defence attorney Branko Karadeglic explained.

Raguz, former Commander of the Fourth Battalion with “Knez Domagoj” Brigade of HVO, is charged with having ordered and participated in the arrest and detention of civilians from Stolac and Capljina during the summer of 1993.

He is on trial along with Ivo Raguz, former member of that same Brigade, who is indicted for participating in the abuse of detainees.

The Defence attorney included, in the case file, a document issued by the Third Company of the Fifth Battalion of military police in Capljina on August 5, 1993. As he explained, the mentioned piece of evidence proved that civil police had authority over Bosniaks.

“It is visible that there was no engagement of not only the Fourth Battalion, but military forces in general,” the Defence attorney said.

The trial is due to continue on August 19.
