The Appellate Chamber of the State Court dismissed the appeal from the Defence and confirmed the first instance verdict with which the Chamber of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina sentenced Markovic in April 2011 to seven years in prison for the war crimes against the civilian population in the territory of Doboj.

“After examining the disputed verdict within limits of the filed appeal, the Chamber of the Appellate Department passed the second instance verdict which confirms the first instance verdict,” said the statement from the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The first instance verdict found Markovic guilty of raping the underage Z-1 on July 11, 1992, in the village of Dragalovci (municipality of Doboj) after coming armed to her family house and taking her out under threat.

After that, as was established by the verdict, Markovic threatened the plaintiff, who was 17 at the time, not to tell anyone what happened or he would rape her again and kill her family.

The Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina had no objections to the verdict passed by the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Markovic.

The trial of Markovic began in September last year and he has been remanded in custody since April 2011.
