The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has raised an indictment against Muhidin Basic and Mirsad Siljak, for war crimes in the area of Vares.

 According to the indictment, Basic and Sijak forced a female of Croatian ethnicity into sexual intercourse on January 25, 1994, in the premises of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ABiH) prison, which was located in the basement of the Sumarstvo building in Vares.

As it is stated, two other unidentified members of the ABiH also participated in the rape.

According to the indictment, Basic was at the time Chief of department of the State Security Service in Olovo, while Sijak was a member of military police of the 22nd Light Brigade of the ABiH.

Basic is currently employed in the Intelligence and Security Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The indictment was forwarded for confirmation to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Basic and Sijak are defending themselves while at liberty.

BIRN BiH Presents Database and Film on Wartime Missing Children
The Balkan Investigative Reporting Network of Bosnia and Herzegovina, BIRN BiH, presented a database of children still being searched for after the 1992-5 war, as well as a documentary, The Unlived Lives, telling a story of three families whose newborn babies disappeared without a trace.
