Goran Hadzic, the last remaining ICTY fugitive, was extradited to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and admitted to the Tribunal’s detention facility.
In its public announcement The Hague Tribunal confirmed that Hadzic had been admitted to the Tribunal’s Detention Unit.
The indictment filed in 2004 charges Hadzic, former President of the Republic of Serbian Krajina, RSK, with crimes against humanity and the violation of the laws and customs of war in Croatia during the course of 1991 and 1992.
He was arrested in Serbia on Wednesday, July 20 this year after having been at large for more than seven years.
Hadzic is due to appear before Hague Tribunal judges on Monday, July 25. During the initial appearance the indictment will be read to him and he will have a chance to enter a plea.
In his written decision O-Gon Kwon, Deputy President of The Hague Tribunal, said that he would conduct the initial appearance of Hadzic following his transfer to the Hague Tribunal’s detention facility.
Also, the Deputy President of the Hague Tribunal assigned the case of Goran Hadzic to a three-member trial chamber. According to judge Kwon’s decision, the Trial Chamber will comprise of Burton Hall, Guy Delvoie and Antoine Kesia-Mbe Mindua.
The Hague prosecution has announced it would sbmit an amnded indictment on Friday, July 22, which would “supplement and clarify the charges against Hadžić”.
