Macic: Weaker Kicks

Mile Kuljanin said that, on August 12, 1992 indictee Macic kicked him twice with his military boots on, in his ribs area.
 
“They ordered us to kneel down and put our hands on our heads. We were about one metre away from each other. The guards, ten of them, including Macic, came to each of us and kicked us,” witness Kuljanin said.
 
Despite that, the witness said that Macic’s kicks were not so hard, compared to the kicks by other guards in the “Celebici” detention camp, considering the fact that they had known each other from before.
 
“I did not feel a strong pain when Macic kicked me. It hurt much more when the other guards did it. I do not know if Macic kicked the other prisoners harder,” Kuljanin said, adding that he only saw Macic in the “Celebici” detention camp on the day when he kicked him.
 
The Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina charges Macic, a former member of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, ABiH, with war crimes against Serb prisoners of war and civilians in the “Celebici” detention camp and “Musala” sports hall in Konjic municipality.
 
According to the charges, in 1992, Macic participated in the murder of two Serb civilians in “Celebici” detention camp and caused severe injuries to civilians and prisoners of war in “Musala”.
 
Responding to cross-examination questions made by the Defence, the witness said that Hazim Delic ordered the guards to beat the prisoners on August 12, 1992.
 
“Delic shouted at them, telling them to hit us!” the witness said.
 
In April 2003 the Hague Tribunal sentenced Hazim Delic, who was first Deputy and then Manager of the “Celebici” detention camp, to 18 years in prison.
 
The trial is due to continue on July 14 this year, when the Prosecution will examine a new witness.
