There’s been a fortnight of fervent glorification of convicted war criminal Ratko Mladic across Bosnia and Herzegovina – condolence books, the lighting of candles, gatherings, parades, torch-lit marches, photographs on display, social media posts and honours bestowed during the commemoration and funeral in Serbia. This has caused complaints from the public, fear among war survivors – and silence from the Bosnian Prosecutor’s Office. In the latest edition of Detektor magazine, we’re looking back on all the incidents that took place from Mladic’s death up to his funeral.

Mladic’s Death Sparked Glorification and Denial – But No Reaction from Bosnia’s Prosecution
The glorification of convicted war criminal Ratko Mladic – at rallies, torch-lit gatherings and displays of his photograph in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as at his funeral in Serbia – has spilled over into social media, with posts portraying him as a hero. Members of the public have filed complaints about this, while war survivors have been living in fear, but the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina has remained silent, as if a law regulating this issue doesn’t exist.
