Osmanovic, a former member of the Croatian Defence Council and the Bosnian Army, was remanded in custody in Serbia on Monday on suspicion that he committed war crimes against civilians and prisoners of war at the Rasadnik detention camp in Gornji Rahic in the Brcko area of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the summer of 1992.

“The reasons for the request for his extradition to Bosnia and Herzegovina include the fact that the crimes in question were committed on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the victims were Bosnian citizens, the evidence and witnesses are in Bosnia, as well as the fact that Osman Osmanovic has Bosnian citizenship,” the Bosnian prosecution said in a statement.

The Higher Court in Belgrade on Monday ordered the detention of Osmanovic for 30 days due to fears that he might abscond.

The Serbian prosecution said that Osmanovic, “acting in collaboration with several other members of his unit, caused bodily injuries, tortured, abused and intimidated civilians and captured members of the Bosnian Serb Army”.

In 2015 the Appeals Court of Brcko District sentenced Galib Hadzic to two years and ten months in prison and Nijaz Hodzic to one year for having tortured prisoners at the Rasadnik detention camp. Osmanovic appeared as a witness at that trial.
