Bosnian Serb Ex-Soldiers Plead Innocent to Wartime Rape

Former Bosnian Serb Army soldiers Radovan Paprica and Slavko Ognjenovic pleaded not guilty to crimes against humanity including rape and sexual abuse in the Foca area during the war in 1992. Radovan Paprica and Slavko Ognjenovic pleaded not guilty at the Bosnian state court on Wednesday to crimes including rape and sexual abuse in the Foca area between early April 1992 and late March 1993.

“I plead not guilty to all charges. I shall prove that with substantiated evidence,” Paprica said when asked by the court to enter his plea.

Ognjenovic simply responded: “Not guilty.”

The indictment alleges that Paprica and Ognjenovic raped a civilian, using force and threats, during a widespread and systematic attack by then military, paramilitary and police forces of so-called Serbian Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and those of Republika Srpska, which targeted the Bosniak population in the Foca area.
