Ilija Jurisic, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, claims that during his three-and-a-half years in detention in the Central Prison in Belgrade, he was mistreated and even considered committing suicide. With a lot of support from residents of Tuzla and his family, he managed to get through his prosecution for war crimes in Brcanska Malta.

Other people acquitted of war crimes charges by the Bosnian state court share similar experiences.

A total of 86 people have been acquitted of charges of war crimes before the State Court. More than 40 of them have sued Bosnia and Herzegovina and received around 4.5 million Bosnian marks in compensation for their time in detention and the pain inflicted on them.
