Gogic is on trial with Safet Mujcinovic, Selman Busnov, Nusret Muhic, Zijad Hamzic, Ramiz Halilovic and Nedzad Hodzic, former members of civil police, military police, as well as the Territorial Defense. They have been charged with unlawful detention of Serb civilians in Stupari, as well as assault and inhumane treatment.
At today’s hearing, Osman Gogic said he was a member of the military police squad of the Territorial Defense in Kladanj as of May 8, 1992. He said his squad’s task included the mobilization and arrest of deserters, but had nothing to do with civilians and prisoners of war.
Gogic said a bigger military police unit also existed in the village of Tuholj at the time. He said the unit was known as “Haris’s police.” According to Gogic, this unit guarded people and buildings. He said members of the unit were on call at the Kladanj police station. He said they were located on the first floor, where the commander’s office was located.
Gogic was presented with a military police book of attendance, which indicated that the defendant was on duty in the evening on July 22, 1992.
“That date isn’t important for the indictment. From a report written by a colleague of mine, one can see we intervened due to a shooting in the town and we arrested four people. It lasted almost the entire shift,” Gogic said.
According to the charges, Nusret Muhic interrogated Milos Celic on the premises of a school building in Stupari in the presence of Safet Mujcinovic and Midhat Softic on July 22, 1992. Softic allegedly insulted Celic. Celic was then taken to the public safety station in Kladanj, where his interrogation continued. Gogic, who conducted the interrogation, physically abused him.
Gogic said he didn’t know Milos Celic. He said he denied that any members of the military police were on duty at the police station. He said defendant Nusret Muhic, whom he knew by sight, couldn’t have issued orders to him.
“I didn’t know Nedzad nor Zijo during the war. I knew Safet and Selman by sight. I knew Ramiz Halilovic as a policeman from Stupari,” Gogic said. He denied allegations that the military police in Stupari was associated with the military police squad in Kladanj in any way.
Fadil Camdzic, the former commander of the military police squad from Kladanj, testified in Gogic’s defense. Camdzic denied that they used the premises of the public safety station in Kladanj.
Camdzic said he knew Velimir Celic’s name. He said he remembered having been told to come and pick up a Bosnian Serb Army.
“I went to the village of Brloski Potok. They were sitting there together. The atmosphere was pleasant. They said he had scratches on his face, because he had been hiding in bushes for several days. They said they would vouch for him and told me not to take him with me. I was relieved,” Camdzic said. He said he didn’t know what had happened to Celic.
The trial will continue on February 26.
