Mahmuljin was charged on Wednesday with failing to stop the volunteer fighters from the ‘Mujahideen’ unit committing war crimes against Serb civilians and prisoners of war in the village of Vozuca near Zavidovici in 1995, or to punish them for what they did.

According to the charges, members of the unit killed more than 50 Serb prisoners in Vouca.

“Some of the bodies were decapitated and the heads were shown to other prisoners,” said the Bosnian prosecution in a statement.

Members of the ‘Mujahideen’ unit also abused and tortured prisoners, stabbed them, cut off their ears, tied them up and beat them, the statement said.

“The prisoners were tied up for several hours at a time in positions with ropes around their necks, which suffocated them,” said the prosecution.

It said that the bodies of ten victims have been found, while the others are still unaccounted for.

According to the prosecution, the Mujahideen unit had Middle Eastern fighters, but was active within the Third Corps of the Bosnian Army.

Mahmuljin was arrested earlier this month but not remanded in custody.

The indictment has been sent to the state court for confirmation.
