Presenting her closing statement, district prosecutor Mersiha Mahmutovic called on the court to find Ikanovic guilty of the murder of Anica Andjelic in the village of Donji Bozinci, near Derventa, in October 1992.

“The testimony of all of the examined witnesses imply that the defendant committed the crime. He participated in the murder of Anica Andjelic in the most direct manner, from start to finish. The prosecution requests that the court find him guilty and sentence him in accordance with the law,” Mahmutovic said.

According to the indictment, Ikanovic participated in the murder of a Croat woman named Anica Andjelic in the Derventa area in October 1992. He allegedly acted in collaboration with another member of the Vucijacka Brigade who died in 2012.

Ikanovic’s defense attorney, Bozo Cvijanovic, said in his closing statement that the district prosecution hadn’t proven that Ikanovic had committed the crime in the manner described in the indictment.

“None of the witnesses saw the injuries the defendant has been charged with on the injured party’s body. According to witness testimony, not even the people who buried her mentioned them. The witnesses who conducted a crime scene inspection didn’t mention those injuries either,” Cvijanovic said.

Prior to the presentation of closing statements, Ikanovic testified in his own defense and said he didn’t participate in the murder of Anica Andjelic.

The Ikanovic trial began in mid-April this year.
