As the trial of Jasmin Sehagic for crimes in Kakanj continues before the Cantonal Court in Zenica, Defence witnesses say that they have not heard that the indictee abused detainees in the old Mine Directorate building.

Zdenko Jozic said that he was detained after the breakout of the conflict between the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatian Defence Council, HVO, adding that nobody beat him during his ten-day detention.

“While I was there, many people provoked us, shouted ‘Ustashas’ through the window and threatened us. Jasmin did not allow them to come inside,” Jozic said, adding that he had not heard after the war that Sehagic beat anybody in the prison.

According to the charges, Sehagic, former Manager of a detention facility in the old Brown Coal Directorate building in Kakanj, participated in the torture of Croat detainees.

Witness Ivo Ilic said that he came to the prison in order to find his daughter’s boyfriend, who happened to be in Kakanj during the conflict, so he was detained.

“When I came, some people shouted some words, but those were just provocations…They released my daughter’s boyfriend. They did not harm him in any way,” Ilic said.

He said that, on that occasion he saw Jasmin Sehagic, who used to be his acquaintance before the war, adding that he had not heard anyone say that the indictee beat the detainees.

The trial is due to continue on April 22.
