Prosecutor Dragan Slijepcevic on Monday read the indictment which accuses Malinovic of taking a civilian called Smajil Gacanovic to the Zunovica barracks in Hadzici on August 15, 1992 and killing him with an automatic rifle.

The indictment alleges that Gacanovic was buried in the barracks complex, where his remains were later exhumed and identified.

The prosecutor said in his opening statement that he will prove through witness testimonies and material evidence that the defendant committed a war crime against a civilian.

The defence said however that it would prove that the perpetrator was wrongly identified because “Radovan Malinovic does not know the victim”.

The first prosecution witness will testify on April 28.
