Ancic is charged with having fostered and supported the inhumane treatment, torture, murder, starvation, robbing and forcing people to perform hard labour in Dretelj detention camp from late June to mid-August 1993.

The indictment alleges that Ancic was Manager of the “Dretelj” detention camp.

The Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina alleges that the indictee had full control over the conditions in the detention camp, where about 2,000 Bosniak civilians, including boys younger than 16 years old, were held.

According to the charges, Ancic held the detainees locked without food and water for several days, which caused the death of one of the detainees.

“Also, he is charged with physical and mental abuse of detainees, which led to the death of at least seven detainees, who died due to consequences of the beating, being shot or deprived of adequate medical assistance,” the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced.

Ancic, who has Croatian citizenship, is currently on the territory of that country.
