Trial of Pijunovic behind Closed Doors

The continuation of the trial of Miroslav Pijunovic, known as Piko, who is charged with crimes against Bosniak and Croat civilians in the Teslic are, was closed to public as per a decision by the Trial Chamber of the District Court in Doboj.

The Chamber rendered the decision “due to protection of personal and intimate life” of a witness.

The witness, who testified in a separate cabin, spoke about the first count, under which Pijunovic, former member of “Red Berets” police formation, is charged with having robbed and sexually abused a female person in the Public Safety Station in Teslic.

The District Prosecution in Doboj charges Pijunovic with having participated in the torture, taking away, rape and unlawful detention of civilians in the period from May to July 1992.

According to the charges, Pijunovic was member of “Mice – Red Berets” police formation, which was part of Republika Srpska, RS, armed forces.

The trial is due to continue on December 18.
