Testifying at the trial for crimes in Sarajevo, a State Prosecution witness says that guard Kemo hit him twice during his detention in “Viktor Bubanj”.

Rade Vucicevic said that he was arrested on May 16, 1992 and taken to the fifth floor of the Central Prison and then transferred to “Viktor Bubanj”. As he said, guard Kemo and another guy beat him in that building.

“Kemo beat me a little bit once. He hit me with his hands,” he said, adding that the same thing happened one more time.

The witness said that he was once taken to another location in order to perform labour and that one guy hit him on that occasion.

Ramiz Avdovic and Iulian Nicolae-Vintila are on trial for crimes committed in the Central Prison and former “Viktor Bubanj’’ military barracks. They are charged with having participated, as members of a joint criminal enterprise, in the establishment and maintenance of a system for abuse of Serb civilians.

According to the charges, Avdovic was Commander of Guards on the fifth floor of the District Prison in Sarajevo and former “Viktor Bubanj” military barracks, while Vintila was a cook and guard in the former military barracks.

Vucicevic said that a guard named Ramiz selected him to perform forced labour, but it was not indictee Avdovic, “who is sitting in the courtroom”. When asked by Prosecutor Dzevad Muratbegovic how he knew about the indictee, the witness said that he saw “on the computer” who the indictee in this case was.

“There were several men named Ramiz, but I do not know their last names,” he said.

When asked by the Defence whether he used to see indictee Avdovic in the military barracks, the witness answered negatively.

Second witness Miodrag Veljovic told the Court that he was detained in the Central Prison and “Viktor Bubanj” in 1992.

“Upon my arrival to ‘Viktor Bubanj’ they took all our belongings away. We were then accommodated in several cells,” he said, adding that he was not beaten.

Veljovic mentioned that he underwent a trial during the course of his detention and that he left the Facility in late October 1992.

The trial is due to continue on October 18.
