Status of Protected Witness Unsolved

4. October 2013.00:00
The trial of Dejan Radojkovic for crimes in Srebrenica in July 1995 has been postponed, because the status of a witness, whose identity was protected during his testimony before the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has not been defined.

The Bijeljina District Prosecution conveyed to the Trial Chamber that the witness said that he did not need protection measures in this case, but the Prosecution was awaiting his written confirmation about that.

The Trial Chamber of the District Court in Bijeljina ordered the Prosecution to solve the witness’ status until the next hearing and ensure his presence in court.

Dejan Radojkovic, former Commander of the Third Squad with the Special Brigade of Republika Srpska police, is charged with having opened burst fire, along with other members of his Squad, at six or seven Bosniaks, who had an intention to surrender, while guarding a road between Bratunac and Konjevic Polje during the withdrawal of the local Bosniak population from Srebrenica in 1995.

According to the charges, one person was wounded on that occasion. The person was left lying in a channel on the side of the road. The District Prosecution in Bijeljina alleges that, a few hours later Radojkovic returned to that place and shot the wounded by firing a bullet from his rifle.

The trial is due to continue on November 22.
