Interception of Republika Srpska Army Officers

A former member of the Electronic Supervision Unit of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina says, testifying at Ratko Mladic’s trial, that he intercepted conversations between Republika Srpska Army, VRS, officers during the war.
Protected witness RM-279 explained the process of interception and recording of VRS communications, providing an abundance of technical details. He explained that members of the Electronic Supervision Unit of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina intercepted conversations, wrote them down in notebooks and registered them.
RM-279 explained how Bosnian Army operators identified the people whose conversations they had intercepted.
During the presentation of evidence against former VRS Commander Mladic the Hague Prosecution has already included, in the case file, a number of intercepted conversations between identified and unidentified VRS members.
At the beginning of this hearing Mladic’s Defence completed the cross-examination of Prosecution witness Srecko Acimovic, who repeated that, in his capacity as a battalion commander with the VRS Zvornik Brigade, he refused to carry out the order to participate in the shooting of Muslim prisoners from Srebrenica in July 1995.
Mladic is charged with genocide against 7,000 Srebrenica Bosniaks, persecution of Bosniaks and Croats throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, terror against civilians in Sarajevo through long-lasting shelling and sniping activities and taking UNPROFOR members hostage.
The trial of Mladic is due to continue on Wednesday, June 26.
