The Prosecution assumed the responsibility to hand deliver subpoena to those witnesses, whose testimony has been awaited for more than two months, in order to avoid a long wait for official international legal aid procedures.

“We have contacted the witnesses, but they are not sure if they can come without receiving a subpoena, which we have not been able to hand deliver to them personally due to other obligations,” Prosecutor Mirko Lecic explained.

He recently visited the witnesses, who informed him that they were willing to testify but they requested that transportation be provided for them.

Lecic said that the Prosecution would ensure transportation means for them by the next hearing, adding that it might decide to give up on one of the three planned witnesses.

The presentation of the Prosecution’s evidence about the kidnapping of 16 Bosniaks from Sjeverin, Serbia, is currently underway at Krsmanovic’s trial. The Bosniaks were allegedly taken to Visegrad and killed.

The Prosecutor intended to present material evidence but the Trial Chamber suggested to him to prepare a list of all non-disputable pieces of evidence, in consultation with the Defence, as well as a list of documents to which the Defence objected.

In addition, Krsmanovic, former member of the Second Podrinje Light Infantry Brigade with the Republika Srpska Army, VRS, is on trial for committing other murders, rape and the abuse of the Bosniak population in Visegrad.

The trial is due to continue on June 11.
