Mato Beckovic-Mickovic said that he was captured in his house in Ulice at the beginning of May 1992 and that he was then taken to Luka detention camp.

“While I was there, I witnessed many crimes committed by Serb soldiers against detainees. I do not know who those soldiers were. They were probably not locals, but they mistreated and hit detainees. They beat me up three times. I would faint due to the hits and pain,” the witness said.

He said that he saw indictee Pudic in Luka detention camp on several occasions, but it was “only in passing”, adding that he neither saw nor heard from other detainees that Pudic mistreated anybody.

Under the indictment, which contains six counts, Pudic, former policeman with the Public Safety Station in Brcko and guard in Luka concentration camp in Brcko, is charged with having tortured, caused severe suffering and participated in the physical and mental abuse of detainees.

Witness Stjepan Markovic told the Court that he worked with the Professional Standards Unit of the Public Safety Station in Brcko and that no complaints against the indictee were filed, while he worked for police.

“We had a situation about ten years ago, when a Bosniak citizen was surprised to see Pudic in police uniform, but he said that he personally had nothing against him. He did not file any complaints against him,” Markovic said.

During the next hearing the Defence will complete the presentation of evidence by examining two more witnesses and the indictee himself.
