Explaining the reasons for requesting custody extension for suspect Jukic, State Prosecutor Sanja Jukic said that, should the suspect be released to liberty, he might flee to Croatia and influence witnesses and accomplices.
“Two days after having received an invitation for examination by the State Prosecution, the suspect unregistered his place of residence in Prozor and left to Croatia,” Jukic said, adding that he was arrested by the border police of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Prosecutor pointed out that some witnesses mentioned some other crimes, allegedly committed by the suspect, adding that, should he be released to liberty, Jukic might influence those witnesses and ask them to change their statements. As she said, Prosecutor Jukic wanted to examine more witnesses over the two coming months.
Jukic was arrested on November 2 due to a grounded suspicion that he participated in crimes against Bosniak civilians in Prozor municipality in 1993 and 1994.
The Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina suspects Jukic of having participated in the persecution, murder, rape, forcible disappearances and other inhumane acts against civilians in Prozor municipality in the period from June 1993 to January 1994.
Zlatko Milovic, Defence attorney of the suspect, said that the State Prosecution did not substantiate its allegations that Jukic might influence witnesses and accomplices, adding that he could guarantee that the suspect would be available and respond to all subpoenas from the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina will render its decision at a later stage.
