A public debate on “Acquainting local communities with the work of the Prosecution and Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina” was held in the premises of the Trebinje municipality building.

As said by the debate organizer – the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights of Republika Srpska – the aim of the debate was to acquaint citizens with the work of the Prosecution and Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina related to the processing of war crimes indictees.

Boris Grubesic of the Public Relations Section with the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina said that the public debate was shaped to enable authorities, police, judiciary and victims’ associations in a certain area to acquaint themselves with the organizational structure, ways and methods of work and difficulties facing the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“Our goal is to help the local community understand the way in which the State Prosecution functions and the tasks and activities that have to be completed in order to file an indictment and reach a second instance verdict,” Grubesic said, adding that the mentioned processes lasted for three or four years, thus creating the need to explain the way in which judicial institutions functioned.

Representatives of all social structures from the local community attended the public debate.
