Drasko Rodic, former military policeman with the Second Krajina Corps of the Republika Srpska Army, VRS, told the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina that he asked indictee Dronjak to allow him to visit prisoners of war in Kamenica detention camp several times during the course of 1992.
The witness said that the Drvar residents were saying that guards mistreated prisoners of war in Kamenica detention camp.
“I heard that Dragan Rodic, known as Saula, and a certain ‘Kinez’ mistreated prisoners,” Rodic said.
The Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina charges Ratko Dronjak, former Commander and Manager of the Kamenica detention camp and “Slavko Rodic” school building prison in Drvar, with organising the unlawful detention of Bosniak and Croat civilians and prisoners of war in the period from 1992 to 1995. The indictment alleges that civilians and prisoners of war, who were held in those buildings, were subjected to torture, beating and murders.
Dragan Rodic, known as Saula, former guard and guard shift commander in detention camps in Drvar area, was originally charged under the same indictment as Dronjak. After having admitted guilt, he was sentenced to eight years in prison.
Witness Rodic said that his friends told him that prominent Muslims from Bosanski Petrovac were detained in the Kamenica detention camp.
“Hamdo Ferizovic, a colleague of mine from Petrovac, asked me to go to Kamenica prison, because Zika, who used to own a cafe before the war, was detained in it. He asked me to take some cigarettes to him. I asked Manager Dronjak for permission. He allowed me to do it. I do not know why he was held there. It was probably because he was educated and could influence other Muslims,” the witness said.
Ifet Hukanovic, who testified as a second Prosecution witness at this hearing, said that he found out that his brother and nephew were tortured and killed in Kamenica in 1992, after having been captured in the Galaja forest, near Sanski most.
“I got the information that my brother and nephew were tortured and killed in Kamenica from some Serb policemen,” Hukanovic said.
The trial is due to continue on July 14 this year.
