Upholding a proposal by the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the State Court rendered a decision, on February 3, 2011, referring the case of Vlatko Jarak, former member of the Croatian Defence Council, HVO, to the court in Mostar for further processing.

As stipulated in the State War Crimes Processing Strategy, less sensitive war-crimes cases may be referred to cantonal or regional judicial institutions for processing.

Vlatko Jarak, also known as Doktor, former member of “Knez Domagoj” First Brigade of HVO, is charged with having participated in violence against, intimidation, detention and forcible resettlement of Bosniaks from Stolac and Blagaj area from July to August 1993.

The indictment alleges that, on June 16, 1993 Jarak and some other HVO members tied three civilians’ hands using barbed wire and took them to “Kostana” hospital in Stolac.

In addition, the Prosecution charges him with having participated in taking of civilians from their houses in Blagaj and transferring them to the secondary school center and “TGA” factory complex in Stolac, where they were deprived of food and water. According to the charges, men were taken from those building in an unknown direction, while women and children were transported to Blagaj.

In late January 2011 Jarak pleaded not guilty to the charges that he participated in those crimes. The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina confirmed the indictment against him at the end of December 2010.
