Vaso Todorovic: Plea agreement reached

Todorovic was, firstly, charged for genocide but during the negotiations, a prequalification of the crime was made and he admitted his responsibility for crimes against humanity against civilians in Srebrenica.

According to the agreement, the accused admitted guilt for participating in the ”wider and systematic attack” on Bosniak populations in the Srebrenica enclave during the month of July 1995. Among other things, he admitted that he participated in the capture and murder of more than 1,000 Bosniaks in Kravica depot on 13 July 1995.

Prosecutor Ibro Bulic stated that Todorovic with this agreement pledged himself to testify against ”a large number of transgressors of serious criminal acts” on which he has knowledge and has proposed to the Court to sentence the accused to ”five to ten years in prison”.

The Court council will make a decision on accepting the agreement and length of the sentence on Monday 20 October 2008.

During the hearing, the statement of the accused was read in which he named a large number of participants in the crime in Srebrenica. However, the public was able to hear only the initials of these persons due to ”the ongoing investigation conducted by the Prosecution against these persons”.

“I am physically and mentally alright. By my own will and with full conscience I give this statement and I understand what it means” stated Todorovic.
