The state court has reduced Mladen Milic’s sentence from eight to seven years in prison. The appeals chamber applied the law of the former Yugoslavia to the case, which was in effect when Milic’s crimes were committed and provides more favourable sentencing. Milic was convicted of crimes in Kotor-Varos.

Following the repeal of the second instance verdict which sentenced Mladen Milic to eight years in prison for crimes in Kotor-Varos, the state prosecution and defence asked for a more lenient criminal code to be used.

The Appellate Chamber of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina reduces sentences against Ljubisa Vranjes and Mladen Milic by two years, sentencing each of them to eight years in prison for crimes against the civilian population in Kotor-Varos in June 1992. The Appellate Chamber rejected the State Prosecution’s appeal as unfounded, while it partially upheld appeals filed by the Defence.

Presenting their appeals against the first instance verdict, under which Ljubisa Vranjes and Mladen Milic were sentenced to ten years in prison each for crimes in Kotor-Varos, the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina calls on the Appellate Chamber of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina to pronounce a longer imprisonment sentence against the indictees, while the Defence calls for a verdict of release.

The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina pronounced a first instance verdict sentencing Ljubisa Vranjes and Mladen Milic to ten years in prison each for assisting in the murder of civilians in Kotor-Varos in June 1992.

After accepting a State Prosecution's proposal for the revision of the indictment, the Trial Chamber said that, on October 5 this year it would pay a visit to the location in Kotor Varos, where war crimes charged upon Ljubisa Vranjes and Mladen Milic were committed.

The wife of killed Zdravko Grgic, whose murder is charged upon the indictees, testifies as the last Prosecution witness at the trial of Ljubisa Vranjes and Mladen Milic.

At the trial for the war crimes in Kotor-Varos, a Defense witness stated that he found out from the indicted Ljubisa Vranjes how the Grgic brothers were murdered.

Testifying at the trial for Kotor-Varos crimes, a Defence witness says that he was present when indictee Mladen Milic was invited to drive the Grgic brothers to a detention unit, adding that he found out a few days later, that they were killed.

Testifying at the trial for crimes in Kotor-Varos, a Defence witness says that he spoke to indictee Ljubisa Vranjes about the murder of the Grgic brothers, but he does not know why they were killed.
