The trial of Srecko Acimovic began before the Bosnian state court with a reading of the indictment and the presentation of introductory statements by the prosecution and the defense. Acimovic has been charged with genocide, due to his alleged participation in the mass shooting of 1,040 Bosniaks captured after the fall of Srebrenica.

The first protected witness testifying at the trial of former Bosnian Army commander Naser Oric said he recalled seeing the defendant killing three Serb prisoners near Srebrenica in 1992.

A state prosecution witness testified at the trial of five former Bosnian Serb fighters charged with participating in the Srebrenica genocide. The witness said he transported able-bodied men from Potocari to Bratunac by bus in July 1995. The witness said that he transported women, children and the elderly to Kladanj a day earlier.

The UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague will hand down its verdict in the case against former Bosnian Serb President Radovan Karadzic in five weeks’ time.

The Hague Tribunal rejected former Bosnian Army general Naser Oric’s request to appeal a decision issued by the tribunal. His request to have the proceedings against him at the Bosnian state court discontinued were rejected.

Testifying at the trial of two former members of the Bosnian Serb Army charged with genocide in Srebrenica, a state prosecution witness said the command of the Bosnian Serb Army’s Sixth Battalion was located in an old school building in Petkovci. This contradicts previous statements given by the witness during the investigation phase of the case.

While being cross-examined at a trial dealing with the Srebrenica genocide, a state prosecution witness confirmed that Radovan Karadzic, the former president of Republika Srpska, issued an order to establish a public safety station in Srebrenica on July 11, 1995.

The former intelligence chief of the Bosnian Serb Army’s Main Headquarters, Zdravko Tolimir, who was convicted of the genocide of Bosniaks from Srebrenica, died in the Hague Tribunal’s detention unit.

The Bosnian prosecution expressed dissatisfaction with the Serbian court’s ruling, saying that Brano Gojkovic should have been given a longer prison sentence because he took part in “one of the largest executions in the Srebrenica genocide”.

Bosnian Serb ex-soldier Brano Gojkovic was jailed for ten years after making a plea bargain with the Serbian prosecution, admitting he took part in executing 800 Bosniaks from Srebrenica in 1995.
