Former Bosnian Serb soldier Zeljko Novakovic will be tried for crimes against humanity for participating in the murders, torture and persecution of Bosniak civilians in villages in the Bosanski Novi area in 1992. The Bosnian state court announced on Friday that it has confirmed an indictment charging Zeljko Novakovic with committing crimes against humanity during attacks on several Bosniak-populated villages in the north-western Bosanski Novi area between early May and September 1992.

The Bosnian prosecution filed an indictment on Friday against Ljuban Babic, Ranko Balaban, Rajko Karalica, Milenko Brcin, Mirko Odzic, Milenko Babic, Ostoja Balaban, Ratko Goronja, Nikola Reljic, Dragan and Ranko Baltic, Miroslav Kapetanovic and Ranko Grab, charging them with participating in the murders and torture of civilians from the villages of Ekici and Alici in the Bosanski Novi municipality in June 1992.

Mirsad Hodzic, also known as Abu Dzafer, a former member of the Bosnian Army’s El Mujahid detachment, is accused of abducting and torturing three Croat civilians in Travnik in 1993. The state prosecution filed an indictment against Hodzic on Friday, accusing him of abducting three Croat civilians and threatening them with weapons in the Travnik area in October 1993 in order to exchange them for captured members of the El Mujahid Ddetachment.
