Case: Puljic Mile

Former Croatian Defence Council battalion commander Mile Puljic was acquitted on appeal of committing crimes against humanity by allowing the abuse of prisoners in the Mostar area in 1993 and 1994. The appeals chamber of the Bosnian state court on Thursday acquitted Mile Puljic, former commander of the Second Battalion of the Croatian Defence Council’s Second Brigade, of crimes against humanity.

24. August 2016.
At a trial for crimes in Srebrenica, a prosecution witness said that the defendant, Bosnian Serb ex-officer Srecko Acimovic, refused to send troops to assist in the killings of Bosniaks in July 1995. Prosecution witness Dragan Stjepanovic told the state court on Wednesday that in July 1995 he was a commander of a division with the Second Battalion of the Bosnian Serb Army’s Zvornik Brigade and that defendant Acimovic was its chief.


9. March 2016.
An expert witness testified for the prosecution at the trial of Mile Puljic, charged with crimes in Mostar. The witness said he drew upon reports issued by the Intelligence and Security Service (OSA) of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) when discussing the defendant’s zone of responsibility in his findings.


27. January 2016.
Statements given by three deceased witnesses were read by the state prosecution at the trial of Mile Puljic, charged with crimes in Mostar. The witnesses described incidents of murder, injury and abuse they experienced while performing forced labour on Santiceva Street in Mostar in 1993.
