Former Bosnian Army serviceman Dzevad Salcin was sentenced to two years in prison for cutting off part of a Serb prisoner of war’s ear on Mount Igman above Sarajevo in 1993.
After a trial that has lasted more than two years, the Bosnian state court will hand down a verdict in the case of Dzevad Salcin, a former member of the Bosnian Army charged with crimes on Mount Igman in the municipality of Hadzici. The verdict has been scheduled for January 21.
On Thursday, January 21, the Bosnian state court will hand down a verdict against Dzevad Salcin, a former member of the Zulfikar Squad of the Bosnian Army. Salcin has been charged with cutting off part of a prisoner’s ear and beating a group of prisoners on Mount Igman in 1993.
The announcement of the verdict in the Dzevad Salcin trial has been postponed by the Bosnian state court. A new date will be set at a later stage. Salcin has been charged with committing war crimes on Mount Igman.
Presenting its closing statement, the defense of Dzevad Salcin called upon the trial chamber to find Salcin not guilty of wartime prisoner abuse. According to Salcin’s defense, the state prosecution didn’t demonstrate that Salcin was responsible for the abuse of wartime prisoners on Mount Igman in 1993.
Dzevad Salcin’s defense presented its closing statement today. Salcin’s defense attorney said the state prosecution hadn’t proven any of the allegations contained in the indictment, which charges Salcin with war crimes on Mount Igman in 1993.
