Dragan Vikic, the wartime commander of interior ministry police units in Sarajevo, and Jusuf Pusina, a former Bosnian interior ministry official, went on trial over the killing of eight prisoners of war in 1992. The trial of Dragan Vikic, Jusuf Pusina and two former policemen, Nermin Uzunovic and Mladen Covcic, who are all accused of crimes against prisoners of war, began at the state court in Sarajevo on Tuesday.

Radovan Karadzic asked the UN court to reject a prosecution appeal to increase his sentence to life imprisonment and find him guilty of genocide in seven more Bosnian municipalities in 1992. Former Bosnian Serb political leader Radovan Karadzic filed a motion to the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals in The Hague on Thursday, asking the UN war crimes court to throw out the prosecutors’ appeal.

A prosecution witness claimed that military policeman Mehmed Alesevic, who is on trial for war crimes, was present while other soldiers beat him up at a motel in Buzim in 1995. Testifying at the trial of Mehmed Alesevic at the state court on Monday, prosecution witness Safet Dzaferovic said that the defendant was there when he was beaten, although he did not participate in the assault.

Two former reservist policemen and a Bosnian Serb Army ex-serviceman were charged with involvement in capturing and killing Bosniak civilians in the Rogatica area in 1992 and 1993. The Bosnian prosecution issued an indictment on Tuesday charging Dragan Lubarda and Ozren Planojevic, both former members of the reservist police force in Rogatica, and Zdravko Lubarda, a former Bosnian Serb Army soldier, with crimes against humanity.
