Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) remains one of the least equipped countries in the Western Balkans to fight cyberattacks. This was just one of the findings to emerge from the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), which was held in Sarajevo recently after a five-year hiatus. During the event, numerous conclusions were reached regarding internet management and human rights, cyber security, and ways to combat genocide denial, the glorification of war crimes, and hatred on the internet. These conclusions will be presented at a global forum in Japan.

Bosnia and Herzegovina has finally taken steps towards implementing cybersecurity measures to protect state institutions and the public, but an emergency response unit, adequate resources and a proper legal framework are still needed.

A group of young people called the Chetnik Youth Gacko express support for Serb nationalist Chetnik leaders who have been convicted of inciting hatred and military leaders convicted of genocide and war crimes. They’ve amassed 6,000 followers online, causing concern among post-war returnees to the small town of Gacko.

The Bosnian state court will ask Interpol to issue an international alert for the arrest of Milenko Zivanovic, former commander of the Bosnian Serb Army’s Drina Corps, after he failed to appear in court to answer Srebrenica charges.

Former prisoners at the wartime Keraterm detention camp and families of inmates who died gathered in Prijedor to mark the anniversary of the killings of around 200 inmates by Bosnian Serb forces in 1992.

Spomenko Novovic and Borislav Pjano were cleared of involvement in the illegal detention and killing of Bosniak civilians in the Foca area of eastern Bosnia during the war in 1992.

Thirty-one years after a wartime campaign of persecution against non-Serbs began in Bosnia’s Prijedor area, survivors and their families commemorated the victims and urged the authorities to finally allow a memorial to be built.

Borislav Gligorevic, a former Territorial Defence fighter and Bosnian Serb Army soldier who is suspected of raping two Bosniak women prisoners in Liplje in 1992, was arrested at a border crossing with Serbia.

The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina approved negotiations to build two new gas pipeline links with Serbia and Croatia, but a decision on fuel import controls that is being sought by Russia was removed from their agenda.

Bosnia and Herzegovina recorded almost ten million cyber attacks in just one month, while it still lacks essential strategies, regulation and capabilities to protect citizens and businesses, parliamentarians heard during a presentation of the results of the first Report on cyber threats, attended by UK government Minister Baroness Neville-Rolfe and British Ambassador Julian Reilly.
