Bosnian Croat Fighter Indicted for Persecution of Orasje Serbs

Former Croatian Defence Council fighter Mirko Juric was charged with participating in the persecution and killing of Serb civilians and the torture of prisoners of war in Orasje in 1992 and 1993.

The Bosnian state court on Thursday confirmed the indictment of Mirko Juric, charging him with crimes against humanity and against prisoners of war in 1992 and 1993 in the Orasje area.

The indictment alleges that Juric, a former member of the Croatian Defence Council (HVO) 106th Brigade’s military police, participated in a widespread and systematic attack against Serb civilians in the Orasje area from August 1992 until September 1993.

According to the indictment, Juric assisted in the persecution of the Serb population in territory that was controlled by the HVO, and participated in murders, torture, rape and other inhumane acts.

The indictment also alleges that Juric, together with other members of the HVO military police, participated in the torture of prisoners of war at a detention centre in the camp located in the primary school in Donja Mahala in the Orasje municipality.
