The state prosecution previously announced that the defendants, who were members and commanding officers of the Janja police station, participated in the persecution and unlawful detention of Bosniak civilians in the Janja area.

“The unlawfully arrested victims were tortured, abused and beaten. Severe bodily injuries were inflicted upon them. Those injuries left permanent consequences on their health. One person died due to the consequences of their abuse,” the state prosecution announced.

According to the state prosecution, the civilians that remained in Janja were taken to the Batkovic detention camp, where they were ordered to perform forced labour and were used as human shields during battles on Mount Majevica.
